Director of Coding

Southern states

Responsible for accuracy and completeness of coding for Hospital and Clinic records. Develop policies and procedures, implementation and maintain data quality management (compliance) plan for Coding and Reimbursement, health records and documentation and quality data.

  • Develop and coordinate Educational and Training programs
  • Develop and administer Curriculum for Clinical Coding Specialists
    Conduct audits
  • Monitor coding accuracy and documentation adequacy
  • Review claim denials and rejections, implement corrective actions
  • Internal investigations of changes in coding practices or reports
  • Handle corrective actions
  • HIM Compliance violations, handle disciplinary actions and communicate to Corporate Compliance Officer
  • Serve as resource for Department Managers, Staff, Physicians and Administration
  • Recommend revisions to corporate compliance program for improvement
  • Advise Clinical Coding Specialists relative to performance and maintain documentation
  • Participate in appropriate department and hospital committees
  • Establish and monitor procedures for clinical education and evaluation
  • Maintain schedules for Clinical Coding Specialists
  • Prepare Utilization Analyses, Patient Demographic Reports and Provider Profiles
  • Collect and analyze data for special clinical research projects
  • Serve as member of Billing Readiness Report Review Committee & Revenue Cycle Committee
  • 6+years prior Hospital Coding experience
  • Either RHIA or RHIT Registration
  • If RHIA registered, must have Bachelor's Degree and 4 years Supervisory / Management experience
  • If RHIT registered, must have Associates Degree and 6 years Supervisory / Management experience
  • Either CCS, CCS-P, or CPC-H
  • Strong managerial, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT Coding principles & guidelines
  • Extensive knowledge of Medical terminology
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, State and Payer-specific Regulations and Policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of report creation utilizing Excel spreadsheets
  • Ability to collect, interpret and analyze patient data
